I've been thinking a lot about what it means to sustain a creative practice, not just to make things, but to make a life around making that is abundant. I learned the hard way when working full-time as an artist before the pandemic that you can't hustle your way to liberation. You also can't sustain a practice that doesn't prioritize sustaining the mind, body, and spirit that run it. This means that I probably won't make a million dollars, but it means I'll be able to build and maintain a quality of life that allows me to thrive.
Here is how we've chosen to build tiers for this fundraising effort:
$20 is the monetary equivalent of a one-month subscription to our Patreon at the highest tier level.
$50 is all the fees paid per month to maintain suryahstudio.com
$100 is a one-time stipend for purchasing research and/or art-making materials.
$350 covers one month of rent in our physical studio space.
You can donate at any time with unlimited access by visiting the "Sustain this Work" page on suryahstudio.com or directly using the link below:
A one-time donation may not seem like much, but it can make a huge difference. It helps me keep our physical studio space going, buy materials, and invest time into the research and collaboration that make this work what it is. It allows me to say yes to projects that feed my spirit and community instead of burning me out. Your donations will help me build something that lasts, not just for me, but for everyone who finds something meaningful in what I make.
Beyond the logistics, it gives me breathing room and lets me take care of myself. Rest, care, and slowness are not luxuries—they're essential. They're part of the work and essential to my self-preservation.
If you've ever felt moved by something I've created, or if you believe in supporting independent artists trying to do things differently, this is one way to be part of that. To help make sure the work continues. To help me continue.
Other ways to support: If you would like to become a subscriber to the Suryah Studio Patreon and make monthly contributions in exchange for exclusive content, research, archival materials, and more behind the scenes, we would also greatly appreciate that. In addition, we accept monetary contributions in any amount, small or large, through Cash App ($BrianSuryah) and Venmo (@BrianSuryah).
Thanks for considering it. And thank you, always, for being here.
With care,
Brian
